Abstract

Multicultural learning is an important approach in education that aims to increase intercultural understanding and tolerance. This study focuses on the experience of Christian students at SMA Muhammadiyah Mayong, which is an Islamic-based school, in the context of multicultural learning. Through a qualitative approach, this study explores how Christian students interact with their Muslim classmates, as well as how they integrate multicultural values into the teaching and learning process. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and analysis of relevant documents. The results of the study show that Christian students at SMA Muhammadiyah Mayong experience an inclusive learning environment, where religious and cultural differences are valued. Positive interfaith interaction contributes to the formation of an attitude of tolerance and mutual respect among students. In addition, teaching that prioritizes universal values, such as justice and humanity, is an important foundation in the learning process. However, the study also found challenges faced by Christian students, such as stereotypes and prejudices that sometimes arise. However, open dialogue efforts between students, teachers, and parents have succeeded in creating an atmosphere that supports multicultural learning. Awareness of the importance of diversity in education fosters a sense of solidarity and social concern among students. Overall, this study concludes that multicultural learning at SMA Muhammadiyah Mayong not only provides academic benefits but also enriches students' social experiences. It is hoped that the results of this study can be a reference for the development of a more inclusive and responsive educational curriculum for cultural diversity in Indonesia. Through multicultural education, the young generation is expected to become agents of peace and unifier in a pluralistic society.
